After winning a national essay competition for the Guardian Media Group, at the age of 15, Waheeda has been actively involved with researching and debating political topics; both domestic and international. After completing her BA in English from QMUL and her MA in English Literature from the University of Bristol, she worked as a GCSE English Teacher in a London faith based school. Waheeda has been involved with the Academy of Ideas project, ‘What is Science Education For?’ and the IOI Education forum and got involved with the Debating Matters Competition since 2007. She is a firm believer that young people should be valued upon their intellectual merit. At present she is a mother of two and is actively involved in community empowerment projects.
