Writer & social historian
Rebecca is a cultural historian, lecturer, novelist and biographer. She began her working life as the assistant and press officer to Dr David Jenkins, Bishop of Durham from 1984 to 1994. She is a member of the International Society of Olympic Historians, the Crime Writers’ Association and the Historical Writers’ Association. From 2009 to 2011 she served as Royal Literary Fund Fellow at York St. John University. Her biography of nineteenth-century actress, ‘Fanny Kemble, The Reluctant Celebrity’, was short-listed for the 2005 Theatre Book Prize, and her social history, ‘The First London Olympics, 1908’, was long-listed for the William Hill ‘Sport Book of the Year’ Award in 2008. She also writes the F. R. Jarrett series of novels set in the North East of England during the early 1800s. Rebecca lives in Teesdale, County Durham. Visit her website here
