    Born and brought up in County Durham, Paul read Law at Trinity Hall, Cambridge before qualifying as a solicitor. He specialised in Civil Litigation work in two large Newcastle practices, before training for Church ministry at Cuddesdon, outside Oxford. Since ordination, his work – in the North East, Cumbria, and since 2009, North Yorkshire – has included (alongside ordinary parish duties): time as full-time and part time University chaplain; governor responsibility at primary and secondary schools; other chaplaincy relationships with public bodies.
