Linacre College, Oxford
James King is currently studying towards a doctorate in climate science at the University of Oxford. His research focuses on climate dynamics and change on the African continent. An alumnus of Debating Matters, James was a member of The Burgate School debating team, who were knocked out in the first round of the national finals twice in three years. This achievement was reported in the local paper as ‘Debating King fails to win crown’. James consoled himself with picking up a Best Individual at the South regional final and an Honourable Mention at the national final in 2013. When not debating, he enjoys listening to and performing various kinds of music (from punk rock to Renaissance polyphony), competing in motorsport, and supporting AFC Bournemouth, the pride of the South Coast.
