Researcher/author/illustrator
Helen trained as a teacher in Yorkshire and taught in schools there. Then, after moving to Wales, she worked in adult and further education. After working as a manager in education, she went to Ethiopia to work as a VSO volunteer in the Ministry of Education for two years as a teacher advisor. Helen has also managed a project in Rwanda before returning to Wales to study illustration for children’s publishing. She regularly returns to Ethiopia and illustrates and writes children’s books for publishers in Addis Ababa. Since completing her PhD Helen has undertaken research into the explorers, Henry Morton Stanley and his wife, Dorothy Tennant, and is currently writing a novel about their early relationship.
