Swansea University
Fatou is a Swansea University student who has recently completed her MSc in public health and health promotion in December 2017. This programme appealed to her because she is passionate about encouraging women of all ages into becoming physically active especially those from Black and Minority Ethnic (BAME) backgrounds who are more susceptible to developing conditions such as diabetes.
Whilst in university she trained as an Athena SWAN student ambassador. In this role she helped organise an international dance and music event for BAME young women in celebration of International Women’s Day and promoted gender equality. Fatou is currently a student ambassador and class representative. In 2016 she undertook training to become a Diabetes Community Champion, a voluntary role which involves promoting and raising awareness of the condition especially within BAME communities and to enable those with the condition to live a better quality of life.
