  • Professor Dean Garratt

    York St John University

After qualifying as a secondary teacher in 1993, Dean completed a PhD before working in a variety of roles in higher education over the past 22 years. This included an 11-year period at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU), three years at Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) and over six years at the University of Chester. In this time, he worked extensively on undergraduate programmes, both at MMU and LJMU, and also developed and led a range of postgraduate programmes, especially in the area of research methodologies at master’s and doctoral level. His experience as a qualitative researcher and work with postgraduate students (both taught and research-focused) together provided the opportunity to undertake a secondment as director of the Graduate School and Associate Dean of Research at the University of Chester before moving to York St John University and taking up post as head of the School of Education.
