SavilleChris Saville
Postdoctoral researcher, Earth Sciences
Durham University
After studying natural sciences at Cambridge and working as a physics teacher, Chris returned to university to re-engage with academia and obtain a PhD on tectonic geomorphology. He then worked as a postdoctoral researcher, before taking up his current post as a teaching fellow in Earth Sciences. His research expertise is in fluvial systems within orogenic plateaux. In other words, he spent three years of his life showing that rivers in flat places are also flat. Additional bits of science he has been involved in are showing that the Himalayas are unusually high and industrial collaborations into how much rocks get squashed if you put a 5 km pile of other rocks on top of them. His current focus is making sure that Durham’s Earth sciences department provides teaching that is as good as the science produced there.
