North East LEP
Over the past decade Chris has built a career as a professional economist, working on a range of policy areas across Whitehall. He joined the North East LEP as Chief Economist in 2014 and is experienced in strategy development, policy design, research, appraisal and evaluation. Chris has worked with senior officials, ministers and business leaders across policies areas including: labour market, health and safety regulation, competition, business and industrial strategy. Chris was economic adviser to the Buncefield enquiry led by Lord Newton, following the explosion at the Hemel Hempstead fuel storage facility, the largest explosion in peacetime Europe. He was also economic adviser to the Kay Review of UK equity markets, led by renowned economist and author professor John Kay. Since joining the North East LEP Chris has been closely involved in developing the devolution agreement for the North East LEP area and is currently working on a refresh of the region’s strategic economic plan.
