Bert has a primary degree in biological chemical engineering, a Masters in microbiology and a PhD in bacterial/bacteriophage genetics. He has 30 years’ experience of teaching and research in all aspects of virology and, since 1993, has held a Chair in molecular biology at Queens University Belfast. Bert is a Fellow of the Institute of Biology, a member of the Royal Irish Academy. He’s currently employed as the Deputy Head of School for Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences, and he lives in Belfast.
