Tollbar Academy
Station Road New Waltham Grimsby Lincolnshire DN36 4RZ
“Tollbar Academy was one of the first schools to apply for Academy status having been designated as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted. Therefore on 1 September 2010, Tollbar Academy Limited was opened. Tollbar Academy is an 11-19 mixed comprehensive of some 2070 students which incorporates our Tollbar Sixth Form College. The Academy lies on the border of North East Lincolnshire and Lincolnshire, being situated one mile south of Grimsby. The students traditionally come from surrounding Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire villages which are mainly dormitory villages for Grimsby and the South Bank industrial estates. The vast majority of the housing in the area is privately owned. The original School was opened in 1937 for 300 pupils, all other buildings being erected in the 1970s, with the recent additions of specialist accommodation. The curriculum organisation of the Academy is based on Curriculum Areas, each having a suite of rooms within the various teaching blocks. The Curriculum Areas are: English, Maths, Science, Art, Business, ICT, Citizenship, History, Geography, RE, Modern Languages, Music, PE, Special Needs and Technology. Pastoral care in the Academy is organised on a ‘vertical’ House System. Heads of House and their teams work to the Senior Pastoral managers.”
