University of Derby (Kedleston Road Campus)

The University of Derby is a thriving institution which became a university in 1992. We offer higher education and further education courses, and we work closely with businesses creating bespoke training to meet the needs of their staff. We have a campus in Derby, Buxton and a site in Chesterfield so we can truly offer a broad education choice across the Derbyshire region. Our regional roots are something we’re very proud of. We offer a range of courses across education, health and sciences, business, computing and law, and arts, design and technology. We’re pioneering the way in online courses and many of our courses can be studied part time or full time to fit in with our student’s needs. We’re also one of very few universities to offer a joint honours scheme which allows our students to study two or three subjects instead of just one. But more than that, we also care about the community that we’re very much a part of; we support sporting and cultural events across Derby and the region including the Derby Caribbean Carnival, the Buxton Festival and the Derbyshire Talented Athlete Programme, to name just a few. We’re involved in supporting environmental projects in Normanton and Allestree, and we’ve recently won a ‘Green Gown’ award for our green energy projects which aim to reduce our carbon footprint. Initiatives have included wind power energy generation and refenestration work to improve the energy efficiency of our main Kedleston Road site. We’re proud to be different. We’re a small university, but this helps our students to make friends quickly and easily. And because we’re small, our average lecture size is just 55, so our academic team get to know their students. And all students receive a personal tutor. We’re also proud of our courses, many of which are accredited or endorsed by professional bodies. Our students know that they’re studying something that is valued by the profession in which they want to work, and it’s a privilege to see them go on into the careers they aspired to. Providing an education which puts our students at the heart of all we do is something to be proud of.
