National Institute for Health & Clinical Excellence
The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence provides guidance for the UK National Health Service on the most effective way to diagnose, treat and prevent disease and ill health.
We do this by gathering authoritative, evidence-based information on the clinical and cost effectiveness of new and existing treatments and technologies. Our independent committees, made up of doctors, nurses, health technologists, patients and the public, then consider this information. They make recommendations to the NHS, and to organisations such as local authorities and charities that are also responsible for delivering healthcare in their communities.
We are often asked to make difficult decisions about how a healthcare system with a finite pot of money can best use its resources to provide good health for all. We believe that it is important that society has the opportunity to discuss and debate these important issues, which is why we are proud to be sponsors of Debating Matters. NICE sponsor the London & South Region.
