Canterbury Historic River Tours

Canterbury Historic River Tours provides a truly entertaining experience for its visitors, and is a perfect tour for all age groups, the tour combines a light hearted enjoyable commentary whilst also discovering some of Canterbury’s finest architecture set against outstanding views of natural scenery. 2015 saw the tour being recognised for its excellence by achieving a finalists’ position in the Beautiful South Awards in the category of ‘Tourism Experience of the Year’. The company was also placed as a finalist in the same category of the 2016 Visit England Awards, putting them in the top five tourism experiences in England!
The tour firstly takes you to a small Franciscan island, also known as The Greyfriars, which is home to a beautiful 13th century chapel which spans the river, and is the oldest example of Franciscan architecture in the country.
It then passes under the 12th century Eastbridge Hospital and the King’s Bridge (1134), continuing down river past some medieval industrial buildings, including The Old Weavers House, The Kings Mill, and the Cromwellian iron forge.
After some wonderful views of the cathedral, the tour then passes through the Dominican priories, built by the Blackfriars in the 14th century, and ending up in Solly’s Orchard the site of the old Abbots Mill in the city. We then return, passing The Marlowe Theatre, to the starting point which is home to Canterbury’s infamous ‘Ducking Stool’.
